LAGI Fresh Kills Research Project

FRESHKILLS LANDFILL EXOTHERMIC LANDSCAPE

The University of Edinburgh

Third Year - Research Assistant

2012

This research project was a collaboration between architects at the University of Edinburgh and engineers at Heriot-Watt University. The competition asked for the design of a renewable energy landscape on decommissioned landfill, FreshKills in Staten Island, New York. Through a series of site interventions, the project makes legible the subterranean, terrestrial, and aerial conditions that create very particular microclimate conditions on the site. The competition entry was exhibited on site as part of a public outreach initiative organised by competition organisers.

Principal Supervisors: Lisa Moffitt and Dr Fan Wang (HWU)

Student Participants: Maria Esteban Casañas (ESALA) and Alastair Patterson (HWU)
